Focus On Walk Privacy Policy

Privacy policy for the application.

MJH LABS LLC (“we”) explains below how Focus On Walk (the “app”) handles your information.

1. No account required

The app does not ask you to sign up or log in, and it does not collect information that directly identifies you, such as your name, email address, phone number or location. We do not operate any server that stores user information.

2. Step and motion data (processed on your device only)

The app reads step and motion information only to decide whether a walk can end a lock. A lock ends when you have been walking or running for a total of at least 10 minutes and at least 1,000 steps have been confirmed.

  • Android: With the Physical activity permission, the app uses the device’s step detector / step counter sensors only while a lock is running. It keeps the timestamps of roughly the last 30 minutes of steps in internal storage that is excluded from backups, and deletes them when the lock ends or the device restarts.
  • iOS: With the Motion & Fitness permission, the app queries CoreMotion step counts and activity type (walking or running) for the time span of the lock only. The results are used for the decision and are not stored.
  • Step and motion data is never sent to us or to any third party, including the ad SDK. Lock history records only how a lock ended, not step counts.
  • If you do not grant the permission, or the device has no step sensor, a lock cannot be ended by walking; it ends only by payment or after 6 hours.

3. Information stored only on your device (never sent to us)

The following is stored only in the app’s storage on your device (on iOS, the App Group shared by the app and its Screen Time extensions). It is not sent to or backed up by us, and it is deleted when you uninstall the app (except where your operating system’s own device backup includes it).

  • Lock history — start and end times, the scheduled free-release time, and how each lock ended (walk, payment or 6-hour automatic release)
  • Statistics — walk unlocks over the last 7 days, the monthly calendar and other figures calculated from that history
  • Your daily walk times (when locks start) for each weekday, language setting and notification settings
  • App launch count and whether a review was requested — used only to decide when to ask for a review
  • In-app purchase record — IDs of purchases already granted and the unlock product ID for each lock, used only to avoid granting the same payment twice and to recover a purchase if the app closed during payment

4. App blocking

At the times you save for each weekday, a lock starts and other apps are restricted. A lock ends in one of three ways: a walk, a payment, or automatically and free of charge 6 hours after it started. The app does not record which apps you use or send that to us.

  • Android: With Usage access, the app checks which app is on screen during a lock and, if it is restricted, shows the lock screen using the Display over other apps permission. Settings, phone, messages, contacts, camera, clock, emergency alerts and the Play Store remain available during a lock.
  • iOS: The app uses Apple’s Screen Time frameworks (Family Controls, ManagedSettings, DeviceActivity) to restrict apps and websites during a lock. Usage data is processed within Apple’s system and is not received by us. Phone and emergency calls are always allowed by the system.
  • iOS: While a lock is running (including a break earned by watching an ad), the app uses a Screen Time setting to keep “Set Automatically” turned on under Settings > General > Date & Time, so changing the clock cannot shorten a lock or lengthen a break. It is released when the lock ends.

5. Advertising (Google AdMob)

The app shows interstitial and rewarded ads using AdMob by Google LLC. A rewarded ad plays only when you choose it on the lock screen; watching it to the end lifts app restrictions for 15 minutes (once per lock). The 6-hour free release time does not change. When ads are displayed, Google may collect and process certain data, such as your device’s advertising ID, IP address and device information, to serve ads (including personalized ads), measure ad performance and prevent fraud. This data is processed under Google’s privacy policy, not by us, and we do not receive it.

  • European Economic Area, UK and Switzerland: On first launch the app asks for your consent to ad and analytics data processing through Google’s consent tool (UMP). No ad is requested before your choice is known, and ad storage, ad user data, ad personalization and analytics storage are each allowed or refused according to your choices. You can change them at any time in the app under Settings > Privacy choices.
  • Android: You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ads personalization, in your device settings (Settings > Google > Ads).
  • iOS: The app does not request App Tracking Transparency permission and does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA). Ad performance is measured with Apple’s SKAdNetwork, which does not identify you.

6. App usage statistics (Google Firebase Analytics)

We use Firebase Analytics by Google LLC to improve the app and measure ad performance. We see only aggregated statistics in Firebase that do not identify you.

  • Events the app sends — onboarding steps, whether each permission is granted, schedule saves, lock starts (immediate or scheduled) and lock screen views, how locks end (walk or 6-hour automatic release), the first walk unlock, paid-unlock taps and purchase results (success, pending, canceled, failed), and rewarded ad offers, views and failures. They carry no name or contact details, step counts, lock times or schedules.
  • Information Firebase collects automatically — an app instance ID, device model, OS and app version, an approximate region inferred from your IP address, and automatic events such as first open and engagement time. On Android, your advertising ID may be collected if you allow ad storage. On iOS, the advertising identifier (IDFA) is not used.
  • AdMob is linked to Firebase, so ad impression and revenue figures appear in the same statistics.
  • In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, this data is collected only if you allow analytics storage (section 5).
  • Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

7. In-app purchase (unlock without walking)

To end a lock right away without walking, you can buy a consumable unlock item at the price shown by the store. Walking or waiting 6 hours ends a lock without payment.

  • Payments are processed by Google Play billing or the Apple App Store. We never receive your card number or other payment details.
  • To match a payment to the right lock, the app sends a randomly generated lock identifier with the purchase through the store. This value does not identify you.
  • The app talks to the store directly, without a third-party purchase service, and stores the purchase and product IDs used to confirm delivery on your device (section 3).

8. Notifications

Lock reminders, lock start and release notices, and step-check prompts are local notifications created on your device. The app uses no push notification server and collects no push token.

9. Network use and external services

We do not operate a server for the app. The app uses the network only for:

  • Showing ads — Google AdMob (section 5)
  • App usage statistics — Google Firebase Analytics (section 6)
  • Unlock purchases, update prompts (Android) and review requests — system features of Google Play and Apple
  • “Share with friends” — you share the app store link yourself
  • “Contact the developer” — the email you write is pre-filled with your device model, OS version, app version and language/region setting to help us answer. You send the email yourself; nothing is sent if you do not.

The app uses no cookies or crash reporting services. Its only analytics are Firebase Analytics (section 6).

10. Permissions

Information obtained through these permissions is processed only on your device and is not sent to us.

  • (Android) Usage access: to detect and restrict other apps during a lock.
  • (Android) Display over other apps: to show the lock screen.
  • (Android) Physical activity: to use the step sensors for the walk check (section 2).
  • (Android) Exact alarms: to start locks at the times you scheduled.
  • (Android) Foreground service, wake lock, boot completed: to keep restricting apps and counting steps during a lock (the screen-off wake lock is time-limited), and to restore a running lock and your schedule after a restart or app update.
  • (Android) Default phone and SMS apps: to identify them so they stay usable during a lock. The app does not access calls, messages or contacts.
  • (iOS) Screen Time: to restrict apps during a lock (section 4).
  • (iOS) Motion & Fitness: to read step counts and activity type (section 2). Optional.
  • Notifications: for lock reminders and start/release notices.
  • The app does not use the camera, microphone, location or contacts.

11. Children’s privacy

The app is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12. Security

Because we run no server, the only information that leaves your device is what advertising (section 5), app usage statistics (section 6) and store payments (section 7) require, and it is transmitted over HTTPS.

13. Changes to this policy
