Privacy policy for the application.
This privacy policy applies to the Down Payment Help: DPA Alerts app (the “app”, Android package com.insightmyung.downpaymentalert) provided by Insight & Myung LLC (the “developer”). The app is an unofficial guide: it is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for HUD, FHA or any state or local housing agency, and it never takes applications itself. It does not require login, account creation or any personal information, and it never asks for or stores your name, address, Social Security number or immigration status. The developer runs no server for this app and the app uses no analytics or crash reporting tools, so the developer does not collect, receive or store your personal information. However, as described under “Advertising and Third-Party Services” below, our advertising partner may automatically process some data in order to show ads. The app is not directed at children under 13.
The developer does not collect any information that identifies you, such as your name, email address or phone number. Data processed by third-party services used in the app (advertising) is handled under those providers’ privacy policies, as described below.
The following is stored only on your device: your language, the state you choose and your answer to “Buying in this city?” for that state, whether reminders are on, whether you finished the first-run steps and accepted the unofficial-guide notice, the “How to apply” checklist steps you tick, the time of the last data update, a list of program status changes you were already told about, how many times the app was opened and whether a review was already requested. If you use the optional quick check, your answers (whether you owned a home in the last three years, your household size and your approximate yearly household income) are also stored only on your device; they are never logged, emailed or sent anywhere, and “Clear my answers” in the app removes them. The app also keeps a cached copy of the public program data it downloads. Reminders of application dates and notices when a program’s status changes are local notifications scheduled on your device; no push server is used. The notification permission is optional, and the app re-schedules your reminders after the phone restarts. This data is not sent to the developer, to Google or to any other server, is not used to target ads (the launch counter only decides when ads and the review request may show), and is excluded from Android device backups. It is deleted when you uninstall the app or clear the app’s storage in your device settings.
This app uses Google AdMob to show ads. When ads are displayed, Google may collect and process certain data, such as your device’s advertising ID, IP address and device information, to deliver ads, measure ad performance and prevent fraud. This data is processed under Google’s privacy policy, not by the developer.
The app shows a banner at the bottom of its main screens (not on the start or setup screens), an app open ad when the app starts (not on the very first launch) and an occasional interstitial ad when you return from a program details page. To show and measure ads, Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK) may collect your advertising ID, IP address, device information, approximate location estimated from your IP address, ad interactions and diagnostic data, and may use them for personalized ads. The developer does not sell your personal information, but under some US state privacy laws (such as California’s) Google’s use of this data for personalized ads can count as “selling” or “sharing”. To opt out of personalized ads, delete or reset your advertising ID or turn off ads personalization in your device settings (Settings > Google > Ads, or Settings > Privacy > Ads on some phones); you will then see non-personalized ads. The app never sends your chosen state, quick-check answers, checklist or reminders to Google.
Once a day, and when you open the app, the app downloads a public file of program data from raw.githubusercontent.com (GitHub) so that dates and amounts can be corrected without an app update. It also downloads a small public list of the developer’s other apps from the same place and their icons from Google Play’s image server (play-lh.googleusercontent.com). These requests contain no personal information; like any HTTPS request they reveal only connection data such as your IP address. Official program websites open in your browser, and phone numbers open your phone’s dialer; the app does not track what you do there. The in-app update check and the one-time review request use Google Play services and are handled under Google’s privacy policy. “Report a wrong date or amount” opens your mail app with a draft whose subject contains only the state code you chose, the program id and the app version; nothing is sent unless you send the email yourself, and any email you send is used only to correct the program data.
This app is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If this privacy policy changes, we will post the update on this page. This privacy policy is effective as of the latest update date below.
