Privacy policy for the application.
Effective date: August 2026 · Last updated: August 2026
This policy describes what BonaFide collects, why, and the choices you have.
We collect: (1) a one-way hash of your work email — the plain address is not stored after verification; (2) the profile details you enter, such as nickname, birth date, job, and city; (3) an approximate, city-level location our servers derive from the city you select — the coordinates of that city's center point — stored with your profile and used only for distance-based matching filters; we never collect your device's precise GPS location; (4) messages you send in chats; (5) records of bean purchases and spending; (6) push notification tokens for your device.
We use this information to verify employment, deliver introductions, run chats, process purchases, send notifications, and keep the community safe, including reviewing reports.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). We have not done so in the preceding 12 months.
A small number of service providers process data on our behalf, under our instructions: Google Firebase / Google Cloud Platform (hosting, database, authentication, and push notification infrastructure); and Resend (delivery of verification code emails). App store payments are processed by Apple and Google; when you buy beans we send the store your purchase receipt so it can confirm the purchase is genuine before we add the beans. Apple and Google also perform device-integrity checks that confirm requests come from a genuine install of this app.
BonaFide is for adults only. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, and signup is blocked for anyone younger. We do not knowingly collect any information from children; if we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we delete the account and its data.
Deleting your account from Settings removes your profile, cards, matches, messages, purchase ledger, and sign-in account, and withdraws any pending company approval request. Remaining beans are forfeited and are not refundable. A few things are retained after deletion, solely for fraud prevention, safety, and security: (1) report records; (2) the hashed email, kept to manage re-registration and keep sanctions effective; and (3) if any report about your account was still unresolved when you deleted it, a hold marker that pauses re-registration with the same email until that review completes; and (4) for each bean purchase, a record that the store receipt has already been redeemed — your account identifier is replaced with an irreversible value — kept solely so the same purchase cannot be redeemed twice. App store purchase records are held by Apple and Google under their own policies.
California residents may request to know what personal information we hold and request its deletion, and will never face discrimination for exercising these rights. You can exercise deletion directly in the app: Settings, then Delete account — available even while an account is suspended. For any other request, contact us at the address below.
